Conversation Boost uses the AirPods Pro microphones to isolate another person's voice, if they're talking in front of you, and make it clearer. However, if you have the AirPods Pro, there's a new-ish feature called Conversation Boost, which works better than Live Listen to use your AirPods as hearing aids. Turn off the feature by repeating those final steps in Control Center. Then, when you need to use the feature, put in your AirPods and open Control Center on your iPhone and select the Hearing icon followed by Live Listen. On your iPhone go to Settings > Control Center > Customize Controls and tap on the green "+" symbol next to the Hearing option.
